The goals of usability testing for the website include identifying users’ needs, establishing and validating user performance measures, and identifying potential design concerns, determine design inconsistencies and usability problem areas within content areas to improve the efficiency and end-user satisfaction.

Purpose of Usability Test
The usability testing for the website ‘The Real Steak of Blacksburg’ is designed to determine:
- Usefulness: Does this website help users to make the quick and right decision on steak shopping? Does this website have enough search tools/methods to locate the information that users need?
- Satisfaction: Is the layout of the website read-friendly for different devices? Does it fit the demand of computer users and smartphone users? Are all the content concise but impressive?
Problem Statement / Test Objectives
The usability test will be to determine if the website ‘The Real Steak of Blacksburg’ provides users the essential information for selecting the right type of steak for different purposes. It should include the main toolbar with three to four ways to help users to locate the information. On the website, users could use social media to share recipes and post their comments.
User Profile
The participant will be an adult who lives in the Blacksburg area and not familiar with steak selecting. At the same time, the participant is willing to know the basic knowledge for steak selection. S/He should use a smartphone or computer to explore the website. His/her responsibilities will be to complete a set of searching tasks and providing feedback regarding the usability and acceptability of the user interface.
Method (Usability Test Design)
Five to six participants will join this usability test. The whole usability test includes two-part: three tasks and a post-test satisfaction questionnaire. Full access to the website will be given to participates to complete all task tests. The result of the survey will be used to modify the content or improve the searching tool.
Task list
- Explore the website for 5 to 10 minutes, select one or two parts that you got the most benefit from. (Give answers to the survey)
- Select a type of steaks for yourself.
- Post a comment on the page 'Share Your Recipes.'
Test environment/equipment
Participants will take part in the usability test online via smartphones, desktop, or laptop. An online survey will send to all users after they explore the website. I will ask users permission first and tell them I will not use the results except to analyze the data and won't use their name only their responses.
Evaluation measures (data to be collected)
